PI039: Recruit Stories: Spiderman Versus the Rock

Not all of the experiences that happen in boot camp are horrible. Sometimes they can be amusing, especially if said experience is not happening to you. Take for example the following story told by Recruit Cage. Then read the short story to follow by Recruit Ron H. who experienced the loss of a pet while in boot camp. 🙁

Spiderman Visits Boot Camp

We had a guy named Parker in my platoon. I am not sure if his first name was Peter, but he got the Spiderman treatment many times. Every so often one of the DIs would yell “PARKER! CLIMB THAT AND SAVE MARYJANE!” while pointing at random, difficult-to-climb objects.

The Series GySgt saw Parker attempting to climb the outside of the squad bay and lost his shit. We couldn’t see it, but we could hear Parker repeatedly yelling that he was trying to get Mary Jane. The Series Gunny thought Parker meant weed.

After a few minutes of enjoying the sounds of the chaos the SDI went outside to explain. Our Series Gunny was not amused; we were.

My Kill Hat made me draw a face on a rock, name it, and take care of it as a pet for our whole hike and pretend to feed it from my MRE when we took a break.

Then as we got close to base, he grabbed it from me, threw it off the trail as far as he could, and yelled “YOU GONNA LET ME DISRESPECT YOUR PET ROCK LIKE THAT? GO FIND HIM.”

I never found him. 🙁
