PI 002: We’re Hungry: Where Can We Eat On Parris Island?

MCX Food Court

MCX Food Court

You’ve been running around all morning going from event to event, getting used to the lay of the land and now it’s time for lunch.  But where can you go?  If it’s Family Day, your new Marine cannot leave the base.  Your options are limited.  There are four places you can eat on the Depot besides the Lyceum;  they are the Marine Corps Exchange (MCX) Food Court, The Sand Trap GrillSubway, and Bricks.  We used to have Backyard Burger but they are no longer on the base.

If you choose the MCX Food Court, they have plenty of seating indoors or if you like the outdoors, there are picnic tables outside the MCX facing Wake Blvd.  Just remember we have lots of insects around here and it gets very hot in the summer.  The Food Court has a variety of foods to eat including hamburgers, pizza, and chicken quesadilla.  In the morning you can get some breakfast like their breakfast burrito, my personal favorite.  It has scrambled egg, cheese, and hash browns all tucked into a giant burrito.  Yum!  I think it has onions in it too, but I always ask for it without them.  If you are in a hurry, you can pick-up a pre-made hoagie/sub (cold sandwich), along with chips and a drink by the coffee bar on the right.  My husband and I have done this when we needed to avoid the long line.

Another option is The Sand Trap Grill located at Legends Golf Course.  They serve breakfast and lunch.  You can eat a cheeseburger, club sandwich, chicken tenders, hot dogs, BLTs, etc… buy the sandwich by itself or get a combo with fries and a drink.  My favorite is chicken tenders with honey mustard dip and fries.  Yum.   Legends is located at the far end of the island so be sure to allow for enough time to go, eat and drive back.

Subway is located in the bowling center on Samoa.  They have tables inside to sit at but it gets very crowded on Wednesday and Thursday. Bricks parks a silver mobile unit in the parking lot across from Subway on Family Day Thursdays only.  They have delicious burgers, Pork BBQ sandwiches, and fries. Dominos Pizza is also the parking lot across from Subway They also operate only on Family Day Thursdays.

On Thursday from 10:30 AM to 1:00PM the Lyceum has a family day buffet .  Okay, let’s review: on Wednesday if you wish to stay on the base, you can eat at the MCX Food Court, The Sand Trap Grill, and Subway.  On Thursday your family can eat the lunch buffet at the Lyceum , the MCX Food Court, The Sand Trap Grill, Subway, or Bricks.  Bon appetit!

Hi George, Thank you so much for your service. I think you will find Parris Island has changed a little bit since you last visited. 🙂 Yes, my husband is a cousin of John’s.
