Results of Command Level Investigations

On September 8, Headquarters Marine Corps released an article summarizing the results of investigations into death of Recruit Raheel Siddiqui who died March 18, 2016 and allegations of mistreatment of recruits during training.  If you would like to read more about their findings, click here.  The last time Parris Island recruit training underwent such scrutiny occurred in 1956 after the Ribbon Creek Incident.

New Traffic Pattern

The traffic pattern entering the causeway to Parris Island has changed.  There is an inconvenience merge from the Parris Island gateway side. Use caution as those approaching from Ribaut Road often speed through without regard to those who are merging causing a backup from Parris Island Gateway.  Keep in mind that after crossing the bridge visitors will need to be in the far right lane leading to the inspection area.

Commissary Overhaul

The Commissary on Parris Island is going through some changes.  In the past I wrote about the benefits of shopping at the Commissary and why Marines and their families should patronize the store.

If you visit with your new Marine you will notice the Commissary looks more like a warehouse than a grocery store.  This is only temporary.  Aisles have been shifted over and narrowed leaving scars on the floor, the produce area is condensed and places are blocked off as the store goes through an 8 million dollar renovation.  The Commissary will remain open throughout as it goes through the process.
